Byzantine Filigree Pendant
January 1 - January 7

I reversed engineered this pendant from a picture that someone had posted on The Ring Lord forum. Unfortunately, the picture doesn't seem to be there any more, so I'm not 100% sure who to give credit to, but I believe the original artist was Rogaty.

Ribbon of Rings
January 8 - January 14

This is an original weave by one of students in the very first Byzantine class that I taught...Sue Ripsch.

This is her first published piece and it appears in the Winter 2007 Step-by-Step Wire Jewelry magazine.

Scherzo
January 15 - January 21

This is the first is a series of weaves by Prairie Gal that I am planning to do in the coming weeks.

I like bracelets out of heavier gauges, so I used 14 ga 9.0 mm for the large rings and 16 ga 6.0 mm for the smaller jump rings.

Coda
January 22 - January 28

Next up from the amazing Prairie Gal is Coda.

I love this pattern!  It would look awesome as a necklace and is really easy to do once you figure out the correct size jump rings to use.

Half Square
January 29 -
February 3

This Byzantine variation is a weave by Scott Plumlee of www.davidchain.com from his first book Handcrafting Chain and Bead Jewelry.

If you are at all interested in chain maille, his book is a must!

Clearly Crystals
February 4 - February 11

This is the Clearly Crystals from the February 2007 Bead and Button magazine, and is for my cousin.

The wedding colors are Tiffany Blue and Plum, but my cousin likes purple, so I choose Alexandrite crystals for the lighter shade of purple.

Shaggy Loops
February 12 - February 18

Another piece of wedding jewelry for the same wedding as last week, but for a different cousin.

I used 15 different crystal colors in the purple and blue family to make this bracelet.

Scary Weave
February 19 - February 25

This is a weave that I've seen on the MAIL site and also in the book Chains by Becky.

Making the segments themselves was not that difficult, but it took me a couple of tries to figure out how they were suppose to connect together.

Double Flower
February 26 - March 4

While flipping through my new Bead and Button magazine, I realized that I had never done a Double Flower bracelet.

This is the pattern from the magazine and uses 16 ga 5.5 mm ID jump rings.

Persian Rose
March 5 - March 11

I was playing with the Persian weave, trying to come up with some earrings, and ended up with this chain instead.

It is Full Persian 6-in-1 segments connected together with Flower elements.

Persian Circles
March 12 - March 18

A slight variation to last week's Persian Rose pattern...this time using larger, heavier gauged rings for the connectors (since the original 16 ga ones that I used pulled apart after about a week).

French Spiral
March 19 - March 25

I was looking through an old WAG magazine and saw that they had made a single spiral chain using 18 ga 3.5 mm ID rings out of half round wire.

French Spiral 2
March 26 - April 1

This is using slightly larger 18 ga 4.5 mm ID jump rings, and instead of passing through the 2 previous rings, each one added passes through the three previous rings.  The spiral definitely holds the twist much better.

Wedding Ring
April 2 - April 8

What do you do when you decide to put together a wedding in 5 days and the groom wears a special order size 13?  You make the ring, of course!  Sterling silver rectangular wire cut with a jeweler's saw and soldered.

Avalon
April 9 - April 15

I believe that this pattern is called Avalon and the original version was created by Cynthia Clinton...although I'm not 100% sure, since her web site has changed since I printed off the original picture.

Atlantis
April 16 - April 22

Atlantis is a Byzantine weave variation and was made out of 18 ga 3.5 mm ID jump rings.

Turtleback
April 23 - April 29

Turtleback is another Byzantine weave variation.  The Byzantine segments were made with 18 ga 3.5 mm ID jump rings, and the connectors were 16 ga 4.5 mm ID jump rings.

Persian Cross Pendant
April 30 - May 6

The Persian Cross is an original design by Barry Woodham.  The directions that I used were from Maile of the Dreamseeker, and the jump rings were 20 ga 5/32" ID.

Picenes Chain
May 7 - May 13

This is a design similar to Shaggy Loops and Anne Mitchell's Ancient Links that I found on Patrick Ober's web site.  He says that it is based on a Picenes piece that he saw at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore.

Team Spirit I
May 14 - May 20

This is a sample for a possible class I would like to teach this fall using aluminum and rubber jump rings.  I come from the Illinois-Wisconsin borderlands, so we have a nice mix of Bears and Packers fans.  (The Bears bracelet has already gone on display.)

Team Spirit II
May 21 - May 27

More samples for the same class as last week, using only aluminum rings...just with local high school colors instead of National League football teams.

Ladder Hybrid
May 28 - June 3

This week's project was Anne Mitchell's Ladder Hybrid pattern out of the July 2007 Bead & Button magazine.  I thought that single 16 ga rings holding the too chains together was too flimsy, so I used 14 ga instead.

Square Half Persian 4-in-1
June 4 - June 10

I've decided to start playing with shaped jump rings...I bought the mandrels, now I have to figure out what to do with them.

This is the Half Persian 4-in-1 weave using square jump rings.

Square Half Persian 4-in-1 again
June 11 - June 17

Another Half Persian 4-in-1 chain, this time with smaller square jump rings.

Oval Links
June 18 - June 24

A simple 2-in-1 chain using 18 ga round jump rings and 12 ga oval jump rings.

Oval Link Byzantine
June 25 - July 1

By far my favorite chain using the shaped jump rings.  This is a Byzantine single Byzantine units joined together with oval jump rings.

This chain was inspired by one that I saw on Patrick Ober's web site.

Orbital Rings
July 2 - July 8

Another piece inspired by one on Patrick Ober's web site.  This chain consists of 3 sizes of 16 ga jump rings.

Orbital Ring Earrings
July 9 - July 15

A much different look for the Orbital Rings when hanging vertically as opposed to laying horizontally.

Aura Earrings
July 16 - July 22

One of the projects in my 2005-2006 Year of Jewelry was a Celtic Visions variation necklace that I saw on The Ring Lord's forum.  Aura is an original weave by Sara Reading of Corvus Chainmaille.

Byzantine Flower (?) Earrings
July 23 - July 29

Not exactly sure what to call these.  I was trying to come up with some earrings to go with a Bastard weave bracelet.  These didn't turn out exactly as planned.  I think they would be cute made with colored Niobium rings.

Trek Earrings
July 30 - August 5

Saw a red pair similar to these on Etsy a while back.  I'm more of a Star Wars fan, than Star Trek, but couldn't resist figuring them out.

It's a simple Persian segment minus one ring.

Byzantine Cross Earrings
August 6 - August 12

Finally!  I think I have been trying off and on for almost a year to work out a good size ring combination for these earrings.

Byzantine Star Earrings
August 13 - August 19

These were inspired when trying to figure out the size for the inside ring of the Byzantine Cross earrings from last week.

Byzantine Crystal River
August 20 - August 26

While trying to incorporate crystals into the Bastard weave, I ended up with this.  Then saw a similar design on Ess in Chains that she calls Crystal River.  I like that name so decided to use it for this post.

Byzantine Diamond
August 27 - September 2

This is the Byzantine Diamond weave that Colin Mahler is teaching.  I think that I've seen it someplace else before...just not sure where.

Byzantine Diamond 2
September 3 - September 9

Another Byzantine Diamond bracelet, this time hooking the diamonds together at two corners instead of one.

Aura Earrings
September 10 - September 16

I believe that this is also called Biohazard, but I'm not 100% sure.

This is an original weave by Sara Reading of Corvus Chainmaille.

Inverted Aura Earrings
September 17 - September 23

Another Aura earring variation.  This one was submitted to MAIL by Teter Designs

Byzantine Diamond Earrings
September 24 - September 30

An earring version of Byzantine Diamond weave.

Scary Weave Earrings
October 1 - October 7

Can you tell I'm gearing up for holiday sales by making all these earrings?  These are based on the Scary weave from Becky Goga's book.

Celtic Vision Star Earrings 2
October 8 - October 14

The shrunken version of the Celtic Star Pendant.

Sweet Pea
October 15 - October 21

This is an original pattern by Dylon Whyte that I bought from his Etsy site.  (Also available through Metal Designz)

Celtic Filigree
October 22 - October 28

This is an original pattern by Rebecca Mojica of www.BlueBuddhaBoutique.com that was posted on the M.A.I.L. site.

Celtic Spikes Pendant
October 29 - November 4

Another original pattern by Rebecca Mojica of www.BlueBuddhaBoutique.com from the M.A.I.L. web site.

Tao 3 Pendant
November 5 - November 11

Made this out of 16 ga wire and I think it's a little too heavy for earrings, so I'm going with just one and calling it a pendant this week. :)

Double Hoops
November 12 - November 18

A "crystalized" version of the Triple Hoop earrings.

Oval Link Byzantine Earrings
November 19 - November 25

To match my bracelet from this summer.

Square Byzantine Bracelet
November 26 - December 2

Yeah!  I finally finished this project out of Scott Plumlee's book.  It's been sitting half finished in my tool bag for most of the summer.

Captive Inverted Roundmaille Bracelet
December 3 - December 9

Based on the Open Roundmaille pattern, this bracelet captures "rings" instead of crystals.

Right on Target Bracelet
December 10 - December 16

This is another Sue Ripsch original that was published in Step By Step Wire magazine.  Sue was a student in my very first Byzantine class.

Serrated Byzantine Bracelet
December 17 - December 23

This is a new class being offered by Scott Plumlee.  I saw a picture in the Bead and Button Show classes and reversed engineered it. :)

Flat Queen's Link Bracelet
December 24 - December 30

Yeah!  Last chain of the year and I'm even done early for once!

This is the Flat Queen's Link chain weave out of the Chains by Becky book.
